What should I do first when a circuit breaker trips in my home?
First, reset the breaker by moving it fully to OFF, then back to ON. If it trips again right away, leave it OFF and stop using that circuit.
- Unplug or turn off devices on that circuit to remove overloads.
- Check outlets and the panel for heat, odor, or damage.
- Try one more reset. If it trips again, you may have a short or bad breaker.
