What causes a light switch to stop working but light stays on?
A light that stays on while the switch “does nothing” usually means the switch failed closed or the light was wired to constant power. Loose or backstabbed wires can bypass the switch. A miswired 3‑way, a stuck relay in a smart switch, or a shorted fixture switch loop can also keep power on. Electrical issues can pose fire and shock hazards.
